The Musical Director

Daniel Burdet

was born in Geneva and has been living in Belgium since 1968.

After his basic musical studies in Lausanne, he trained in singing and cello playing.

He joined the "Chorale Protestante de Bruxelles" in 1969 as a chorister. In 1982, he took up choir and later orchestral conducting. Under Fritz Hoyois, he first worked as a coach and later assistant conductor, until he took over direction of the choir in 1985. He has studied orchestral conducting under amongst others, the conductor Robert Casteels.

Daniel Burdet graduated as a medical doctor in 1977, and in protestant theology in 1979.
He has conducted many concerts in Belgium as well as abroad. His repertoire spans several centuries, from the Renaissance to the present day; it includes contemporary music, "a cappella" works, the great oratorios and symphonic works.

Together with his choir he was invited to the "Festival des Flandres" in 1985, to Aix-en-Provence in 1989, to Budapest in 1991 and to Paris in 1993 and 1995.

In recent years he has also taken up composition.

One of his aims is to promote young Belgian musicians, particularly singers, by engaging soloists at the start of their career alongside well-known musicians. Furthermore he tries to introduce the singers as well as the public to 20th century choral music.
